A teoria do ciclo da violência ajuda-nos a compreender porque é tão difícil sair de uma relação violenta.
1ª fase – Fase do crescimento da tensão

Fase em que a pessoa agressora mostra arrependimento, promete não repetir o comportamento violento e a vítima perdoa. Nesta fase, não há violência e há um esforço por tentar agradar o outro.
Com o passar do tempo, os intervalos entre as diferentes fases são cada vez mais curtos, isto é, o que começou por acontecer pontualmente, torna-se semanal ou mesmo diário. Outra característica do ciclo da violência é o aumento da sua intensidade, ou seja, o que começou por ser um grito ou um empurrão, transforma-se em agressões mais violentas.
Quem está de fora da relação vê muito facilmente a fase da eclosão da violência e pergunta-se, “Como é possível viver assim?”. A vítima por sua vez, valoriza a fase de lua de mel e mantém a esperança de que a pessoa que agride vá mudar o seu comportamento.
Quanto mais tempo a vítima se encontrar nesta situação, mais difícil é pedir ajuda, atendendo a que, quem agride, tende a isolá-la e mantê-la afastada de quem a pode ajudar.
Não é tarde demais… peça ajuda.
Como pedir ajuda?
– Procure apoio psicológico. Estando emocionalmente mais fortalecida/o, estará mais capaz dizer não a uma vida sem violência e obter ferramentas que lhe permitam lidar com os problemas que surgem no dia-a-dia.
– Apresente queixa. Denuncie quem maltrata. A apresentação de queixa confere à vítima um conjunto de direitos.
– Procure uma instituição de apoio a vítimas.
